About Us

New Canaan Rugby Football Club was established in 2024 with the goal of promoting the sport of Rugby to New Canaan

Rugby is a fast-growing sport in Connecticut, and Fairfield County specifically, with established youth programs in Greenwich, Fairfield, Stamford, Westport and Aspetuck, as well as other nearby towns such as Bridgeport, Cheshire, Clinton, Rye and Pelham. There are approximately 1.2 million rugby players in the United States, and 5 million globally in 120 countries. 

We plan to offer both Fall 7s and Spring 15s programs for various ages as the program grows, initially beginning with an U10 team for boys and girls in Fall 2024 and plans to add U12 and U14 teams in Spring 2025.  

We have incorporated New Canaan Rugby Football Club, Inc., in the state of Connecticut and will apply for 501(c)(3) status in the near future.   

Coaches

Our initial coaching team, including several members of the organizing committee, will consist of volunteer parents from New Canaan who have played at the school and/or university level in the US, England, Ireland and Australia. 

Programs

New Canaan Rugby Club will offer one youth team (U-10) beginning in Fall 2024 and plans to add two additional youth teams beginning in Spring 2025 (U-12 and U-14).  

• U-10 Flag Rugby (Ages 5-9): A fun and easy introduction focusing on fun, teamwork, and the foundational skills of rugby.
• U-12 and U14 Youth Tackle Rugby (Ages 10-13): Building on the fundamentals, this program emphasizes safe and skillful play.

[Note: Players aged [10-14] are welcome to join us for the Fall 2024 season, though there may be some limitations on playing other teams.]
